and coaching as he helped Alan learn and keep rhythm by tapping his foot
on his rocking chair while Alan played for his grandparents! Alan accompanied
his parent's, Bernard and Janie (Kana) Kristynik, at a very early age to
dances in Praha, Nada, La Grange, El Campo, Hallettsville, Ammannsville and
other towns in Fayette and Colorado Counties, recalling sitting on band stands
listening to Czech polka's and waltz's while his parent's danced. Alan attended
Rice Consolidated High School in Altair, Texas. During those 4 years, Alan
was awarded No. 1 UIL Ratings/Metals while competing each year in trumpet
solos. In 1976, Alan was the 1st Rice Consolidated High School Student selected

in 1977, Alan was selected as a 1st trumpet player for the All Student's
Group - USA Orchestra. The All Student's Group - USA toured and performed
throughout Europe, including the highlight performance for Queen Elizabeth
at Windsor Castle in England, her 25th Silver Jubilee as Queen of England.

College (WCJC) Jazz Orchestra. That year, the WCJC Jazz Orchestra performed
during the International Jazz Festival in Estes Park, Colorado, where WCJC
Jazz Orchestra was awarded the 1st Gold Metal ever as a Junior College Jazz
Orchestra. While attending St. Mary's University in 1981-1985, Alan was a
trumpet player for St. Mary's University Jazz Orchestra. St. Mary's University
Jazz Orchestra performed with Clarinet Great Woody Hermann and his Thundering
Herd Jazz Orchestra and Trumpet Great Maynard Ferguson, during San Antonio's
